Years ago, when I first started “internetting” as I’m going to call it, downloading for free didn’t seem like a very risky thing. Then it got kind of weird, with big record labels wanting to file lawsuits against people who swapped files. Now, however, these same record labels are allowing people to play their songs for free on social networking sites like Last.fm. Music sharing seems to be growing not just online, but in real life (irl) as well. Some clubs and bars actually have customer DJ nights where customers can dock their iPods into the sound systems and play tunes for everyone to hear. Copyright lawyers haven’t started getting involved and probably won’t unless these practices become too popular. What is too popular anyway, though? There’s also this thing called Jook that allows you, if you are wearing Jook enabled earphones, to broadcase what you are playing so others that are sitting nearby can listen to what you are listening to. Sharing music has definitely been taken to a whole new level, and I wonder how long it will be before the big record labels start cracking down again? I mean, it’s all about the $$, right?
Speaking from a website owner’s point of view, I cannot stress enough the importance of finding the right hosting company to suit your own individual needs. Everyone is different and what is important to you may not be as important to the next guy, or the next website hosting for that matter. With that in mind, you should always do your research before making a choice as to what company you choose and trust to host your website. Dependability, price, space and customer support are the major factors for me in choosing a host. Alot of people, especially people who are just starting out, do not know what to look for in a web hosting company and that makes it all the more difficult for them to find what’s right for them. WebHostingReport.Com is a web hosting review website that allows you to research each web host, read reviews left by professionals and customers, compare all of the options that they want and need with price and availability and then make an informed decision. If you are currently on the lookout for a new host, I would recommend checking out WebHostingReport.Com before making any decisions. You could save yourself alot of money, time and headaches.
Well it appears that many Zune users are back up and running a day after the leap year glitch caused their music players to stop working. The Zune Team stated on Wednesday at the Zune.Net website that the problem should more than likely resolve itself after 7 a.m (ET) on New Year’s Day. The zune support page says Zune users should simply allow the battery to fully drain then recharge after noon on January 1st. After the batter has sufficient power again it should start up normally, and no other action is required says the Zune website. However, some Zune owners are still saying they are still having problems. What’s funny is I read somewhere that a guy was complaining about his Zune not working and he had made a huge playlist of songs to play during a New Year’s Eve party. The reason I find this funny is because in my previous post about this problem, someone actually commented saying something about how terrible it would be if someone was going to use their Zune for music at a party and I remember thinking how corny that would be. Guess it’s not so corny afterall?
This Christmas season it seemed like alot of electronic gadgets were popular gifts, and digital photo frames were no exception. Of all of the various brands and styles I’ve seen, though, only one strikes me as actually worth buying and/or using. That particular digital frame would be the CEIVA Digital Photo Frame. I know what you’re probably thinking, “What could this digital photo frame have that others don’t have?”. Well, I’ll tell you. The CEIVA digital photo frame is unique in that using an existing phone line or optional Wi-Fi connection, you can actually upload images to display without having to even connect the digital frame to a computer or any other media storage device. That means, you can literally upload videos from just about anywhere that you have a computer connected to the internet or a cell phone. I’ve personally never seen any other digital photo frame that had those capabilities. Not only is it able to receive photos from a computer or camera phone, but the CEIVA digital frame will also display your pictures perfectly with no cropping, stretching or squishing of the images. CEIVA is also currently having a sale on their CEIVAshare pictureplan. Right now you can get $100 of the regular price for a 1 year plan. So check it out, and also remember to take a look at the optional WiFi adapter if you have a wireless connection.

Microsoft is having a heck of a time today, trying to figure out how to fix the “Zune 2k9″ Midnight Meltdown that happened sometime in between the late hours of Tuesday night and early hours of Wednesday morning. Apparently, there is a programming flaw with certain 30 BG models of the Microsoft zune that is causing them to freeze. Thousands of Zune users have flooded forums, made youtube videos and sent in complaints regarding the freeze. Basically what seems to be happening is the devices are freezing after loading and it shows only the Zune icon and a loading bar. Although Microsoft is scrambling to try and get this problem solved, they really don’t have any answers right now except to say that it is a flaw that is most likely calendar related and has to do with the leap year. Microsoft does say tht by this afternoon (January 1) the problem should basically resolve itself when the internal clock resets itself. THey say that you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before it can restart successfully. there is more information being provided at Zune.Net.
Anyway, if you don’t feel like waiting around until noon, or after noon your Zune still isn’t working properly, you can find a step by step walkthrough on how to get around the problem on www.rapidrepair.com. It has something to do with removing the battery and the hard drive and then reconnecting both.
But yea.. Microsoft, way to go.
If you wear glasses like I do then you’ll be pleased to know that I found yet another really awesome website where you can purchase prescription eyeglasses online for an extremely low price. Optical4Less.Com sells high quality glasses for $15 (USD) and even offers free shipping if you order more than one pair. With prices this low, most people probably would order more than one pair, though. One of the major benefits, in my opinion, for being able to buy eyeglasses for such an affordable price is that you can afford to buy enough pairs that you can mix and match with your wardrobe. Before I knew you could get glasses online for such a low price, I was stuck wearing the same eyeglasses every single day, like most people. Something else I’d like to point out is that Optical4Less.Com also includes Anti-reflective coating for free with every prescription eyeglasses purchase. You can also get tinted sunglasses, bifocal reading glasses or photochromic sunglasses for a very low price. Optical4Less.Com also has a really cool virtual try-on system so that you can see how the glasses will actually look on you before you order. If you do order from Optical4Less.Com, you can expect your glasses to arrive within a week. So if you want quality, yet cheap eyeglasses check out Optical4Less.Com. Also, to read customer testimonials you can visit http://www.optical4less.com/testimonial.htm and read what other customers have to say about their experiences with the company and their products.
As I write this, Time Warner Cable CEO Glenn Britt and Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman are standing by as a fee dispute is continued to be negotiated between the two companies. The end result in this fee dispute could be MTV Networks being pulled from Time Warner Cable at Midnight tonight. A TWC spokesperson said that Viacom is asking for a 15 percent increase, but Viacom says they are asking for a 12 percent increase. Basically it seems like they are just going back and forth like children, pointing fingers and placing blame anywhere they can. Time Warner says it’s willing to pay a small increase, however Viacom seems to be avoiding that statement altogether. Time Warner says they are in negotiations where Viacom states Time Warner is unwilling to negotiate. All we have to go on as far as information goes is basically what they release to the public. Who really knows what’s going on.
Personally, I think this whole thing is pretty damn stupid. Time Warner Cable, in my opinion, doesn’t need to give their customers any more reason right now to cancel their services with them, and that’s what’s going to end up happening if MTVN is removed from their broadcasting. Viewers are looking for a reason now, more than ever, to cut back and if their programs are taken away then this might actually be reason enough for them to do so. It’s like a game of chicken that they are playing, waiting to see who will give in. There are two ways to look at this from Time Warner’s point of view. They can claim to be helping their customers to avoid a rate increase, which is basically what they are saying, or they are simply trying to preserve their own cash flow.
I’m sure the question though, on everyone’s mind is “How will this affect me?”. Well, it depends on how well you like any of the broadcasting channels in the MTVN, or what your reasons for even having cable are to begin with, I guess. I watch some of the channels in the MTVN, so I would be incredibly annoyed if they are taken away. Some of the channels in the MTV Network include Nickelodeon, CMT, MTV, Comedy Central, and TV Land. For some people, this could be a major upset. Thankfully there are other options and I’m looking into them right now as a matter of fact. I, like many subscribers, are contemplating the switch to satellite, but that is not the only option available. Verizon’s FiOS is also another option. Will subscribers really switch because they can’t watch Comedy Central or CMT? Definitely some will, and I’m one of those people. Considering the fact that I feel Time Warner Cable is one of the most greedy companies I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with, switching doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. We’ve got just over 2 hours left to find out exactly what is going to happen. I’m really curious as to how far TWC is willing to take this.
I’m sure that you’ve all heard of Zenni Optical by now. If not, then you really need to check them out, if you or someone you know wears glasses that is. I’ve been wearing them for a couple of years now so I know how expensive they can be. What I absolutely love about Zenni Optical is the fact that they sell complete sets of prescription eyeglasses for as low as $8. They have a massive selection of styles to choose from, too, so it’s not like you are limited to just one type of frames or some cheap looking frames. Not only do they have some really cute styles for everyone in the family, they also have a cool selection of Holiday frames to choose from. I personally think the holiday frames are kind of girly, but I did recommend that my mom check them out because she wears glasses, too and is need of a new pair. She was thrilled at the selection and the prices and found several that she really liked. That’s what’s so great about Zenni Optical. If you have to wear glasses and are living on a budget, this is definitely the place for you. If you are one of those people who are into “wearing” how you feel, then you should definitely check out their selection of holiday frames. Remember, at these prices, you can get more than one pair so you are not limited to just one style.

This is going to be sort of a quickie, but it’s regarding something I found rather interesting. Firstly, in November of 2008, 1.5 million Nintendo DS units were sold in the United States. That’s just the United states, not including any other country. Only 421,000 PSP units were sold in that same month. What does this mean for Sony’s PSP? Well, shockingly it means that Sony is planning to refresh the PlayStation Portable in order to make it more, right? Maybe. There are rumors circulating that there is going to be a PSP2 out in 2009, but Sony will not confirm said rumors. It might just go out altogether, who knows. What I find most interesting though, and a bit peculiar, is that as far as comparison, the Nintendo DS doesn’t exactly support 3D graphics, is not a music player or movie device, is not a mobile web browser nor is it a phone. The DS does not stream music or movies over the internet iether. The Nintendo DS is simply a portable gaming system. The one thing that the Nintendo DS has that the PSP currently does not support is the touchscreen capabilities. With the DS you get a cool little stylus pen, something that is seen more frequently now on phones and mp3 players and even computers and laptops. Is that enough of a reason to just drop the PSP altogether? No, I think now. However, what is a good enough reason is that there is basically no new games being made for the PSP because nobody’s buying them. That will only continue to get worse, especially as new Nintendo DS games are being released all the time. Oh well, bye bye PSP!
